The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been rampant.
Season 1 presents a large cast of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "However I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people create a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
